The roller coaster ride for Saab lovers is finally over.  After the disappointing news of Koenigseg backing out of the sale with General Motors, it looked as if GM was going to close the book on Saab.  The exotic dutch sports car builder, Spyker, has reached an agreement with GM and has purchased Saab.   The deal is set to close over the next several months.  Although GM is retaining some ownership in Saab, there will be no controlling interest from GM. 

The purchase of Saab by Spyker will be paid in two installments to GM. The first installment of $50 million will be paid on the date of completion of the transaction, estimated by February 15, 2010.  The second payment of $24 million will be made by July 15, 2010.  Saab has also secured a loan from the European Investment Bank in the amount of EUR 400 million guaranteed by the Swedish government.  This loan guarantee was crucial in the sale of Saab to Spyker.  The guarantee is subject to approval by the European Commission, expected shortly.

Spyker and Saab are quite a bit different, but both companies come from airplane heritage.  We believe it will be an exciting match, both are focused on quality and innovation.  Spyker is very hopeful to turn Saab profitable again soon with the new release of the all new 9-5, new 9-3 convertible, and crossover 9-4X model.
